RESEARCH DIRECTION |
BRIEF
DESCRIPTION |
Ventricular “Brace” prosthesis
© |
External ventricular
supporting device, designed according to anatomical and functional
principles of the VMB concept, to abolish or reverse ventricular
remodeling. Experimental research protocol has been completed (F.
Torrent-Guasp and M.J. Kocica). Realization is pending the appropriate
laboratory. |
Electrical circulation
© |
New concept on electrical
events within cardiovascular system, explaining the sequence of
electrical activation within the heart and its electrical coupling with
blood vessels. Experimental research protocols are prepared (F.
Torrent-Guasp and M.J. Kocica) to test the existence of vestigial
peristalsis within circulatory system, ventriculo-arterial electrical
coupling and the optimal site for the permanent pacing electrode.
Initial experimental proofs, obtained in the laboratory of Prof. Anhel
Benitez - Royal Academia de Medicina Universidad de Cadiz. Further
research is pending the appropriate laboratory. |
Mitral valve – papillary muscles dynamic
complex
© |
Functional anatomy of the
mitral valve - papillary muscle complex. Research protocol (F.
Torrent-Guasp and M.J. Kocica) designed to analyze the function of the
LV papillary muscles and the importance of preserving mitral-papillary
connection during the mitral valve replacement. The protocol also
describe the possibility to correct the mitral and tricuspid
regurgitation using the Ventricular "Brace" Prosthesis. Experimental
work in pending appropriate laboratory. |
Imaging techniques and
the VMB concept |
Analysis of the
activation (contraction)
sequences and movements of the VMB were done in numerous centers, by
different researchers. Echocardiography, CT and MRI - Dr Francesc
Carreras-Costa, Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, Spain; Fourier
analyses of MUGA scans (30 patients in
prospective study) - Dr A. Flotats, Sant Pau
Hospital, DT-MRI and DENSE-MRI -
Dr Han Wen,
NIH-NHLBI Laboratory of Cardiac Energetics... |
Sono-micrometric analysis of VMB segmental
activity |
Experimental researches
are done in Hospital LaFe, Valencia, Spain, in the laboratory of Prof.
J. Cosin-Aguilar. Sonomycrometric analyses have proved the activation
sequence along the VMB. Further researches are designed to test the role
of AS contraction in diastolic suction. |
Mathematical modeling of the ventricular
myocardium |
Ongoing research in the
laboratory of Prof. Morteza Gharib, Californian Institute of Technology,
Pasadena, USA. |
Surgical restoration of the LV
|
Initial experimental and
clinical proofs of the importance of preserving the VMB-AS provided in
the laboratory of the Prof. Masashi Komeda, UC Kyoto, Japan.
Modifications
of the original Dor's procedure, preserving the size, shape and
orientation of the LV developed by Prof. Gerald Buckberg and RESTORE
group. Further developments in this area (Dr M.J.Kocica) in experimental
testing phase. |
Embryogenesis and phylogenesis of the VMB
© |
Theoretical conception.
Experimental research is pending. |
